If you have Malaysian ringgit in Shenzhen and want to exchange it for RMB at Shenzhen Bao'an Airport, official Shenzhen materials listed MYR-capable airport counters in 2024. Contact the counter for today’s cash buying rate and fees before deciding how much to exchange; the archived list is not a live price or opening-hours feed.
What the official materials show
SAFE Shenzhen foreign-exchange service map notice says Shenzhen launched a foreign-exchange service map under the guidance of the People's Bank of China Shenzhen branch and the SAFE Shenzhen branch. It says the map can be searched by currency, bank name or district and can show the outlet name, address, supported currencies and phone number.
Shenzhen port and airport exchange outlet list is a 2024-06-01 list from the Shenzhen port authority. In the Bao'an Airport section, it lists several T3 exchange outlets and includes 马来西亚林吉特 among supported currencies. Two named entries are the Qianhai Yunhuitong arrivals outlet at T3 2H-09-02 and the Travelex international-arrivals outlet at T3 1A-01-01. The archived Travelex entry gives 0755-23459320 and lists MYR among its currencies. Use those details to verify the current counter and access location; they are not confirmation that the same counter or hours still apply today.
How to avoid getting the wrong rate
- Use the official map or call the airport counter before going, because the 2024 list proves listed service availability at that time, not stock or pricing on the day you arrive.
- Ask the counter for the buying rate for Malaysian ringgit cash to RMB, any service fee, and whether your banknote denomination and condition are accepted.
- Do not treat online indicative rates as the airport counter's cash rate. Cash exchange rates and fees can differ from interbank or app rates.
- Bring identification and keep the receipt. If the counter cannot accept your notes, ask which airport or port outlet currently has MYR cash service.
Calculate the RMB you will actually receive
Ask whether the quote is RMB per 1 MYR or per 100 MYR, and whether it includes commission. If a hypothetical quote is RMB 160 per MYR 100, then MYR 500 converts to 500 ÷ 100 × 160 = RMB 800 before separately charged fees. A hypothetical RMB 20 fee would leave RMB 780. These numbers demonstrate the calculation, not a current exchange rate.
If a fee is already included in the quoted net amount, do not deduct it again. Compare counters by the final RMB payout for the same notes and amount. Keep the receipt showing the currencies, rate, charges and final payout so you can check it against what you agreed.
